About the Prints
The etchings I create are original prints. I start by creating a printing plate on aluminium. I etch the lines and tones using a copper sulphate etching solution. This is a careful process. Aluminium reacts very fast so the difference between one tone and another can be as little as a 3 second submersion. Once the plate is made it is inked up by hand and printed onto dampened paper using an etching press. I use a white Somerset paper. The coloured etchings are hand inked using oil based colours and then printed on a single run through the press. The colours blend into each other as they are applied so each print displays a slight variation. |
