St Nicholas' is the village church in Steventon, Hampshire, made famous by Jane Austen. Her father was rector here and she grew up in the village of Steventon, leaving at the age of 25. Sadly, the house she grew up in is no longer here, but the church remains as a well-loved part of the community. I, myself grew up in Steventon and still have strong connections to it today. Every springtime the village hosts a bluebell fete in the woodlands near St Nicholas’ church. It's one of the highlights of the local calendar so these flowers are testament to that.
This image was made using non-toxic, copper-sulphate etching on an aluminium plate. The plate was cut out by hand using a jewellery saw, etched then hand inked and printed on a traditional etching press. It is printed on soft, white somerset paper.
It is one of an edition of 50, all handprinted. Each print is signed, numbered, and titled by the artist. Please note, your print will not be the same edition number as the photo.
The image itself is on 30 x 15cm. Each print is packed with cellophane and archival tissue, has a board backing, is carefully wrapped and posted flat in a stiff cardboard envelope.
